Amyris Provides Update on Leland, NC Production Facility

EMERYVILLE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Amyris, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMRS), a leader in the development and production of sustainable ingredients for the Health & Wellness, Clean Beauty and Flavors & Fragrances markets, has monitored Hurricane Florence closely and today provided an update on the safety of its employees and the condition of its Leland, NC production facility, which is used by Amyris’s joint venture, Aprinnova.

On Sunday, power and connectivity remained lost in the local area, slowing efforts to communicate with employees. So far, nearly all have reported to be safe with family and loved ones.

“Our employees’ safety is of the utmost importance and we took precautionary measures to shut the plant down ahead of the storm, so they could be home to ensure their safety and that of their families,” said John Melo President and CEO. “Our hearts are with all of the people impacted by the hurricane and our wishes for the health and safety of all and a speedy recovery.”

Following an initial assessment of the plant, the hurricane does not appear to have caused any material damage to the process equipment or the inventory. Assessments continue, but Amyris expects a quick return to full production once power is restored and the plant is back online.

Amyris expects to resume full production of its squalane product for customers without any impact to its third quarter or full year squalane results. Customers including 2,000 of the world’s leading skin care brands as well as Amyris’s own Biossance brand will receive their needed supplies without interruption or any price change.

“Our amazing team in North Carolina demonstrated real professionalism in the way they secured the plant ahead of Hurricane Florence, ensuring our employees were safe and our customers were not impacted,” Melo said. “Their incredible commitment to customers in the production of our sustainable, high-performance squalane, speaks to the wider commitment I have seen across the whole company. With our squalane, we have set the highest standard for clean beauty and consumers have responded with sales on track to nearly double those of 2017. My pride for the team and relief about the plant however, is tempered with the realization that Hurricane Florence has created real damage and hardship for others and is continuing to do so in the Carolinas and we will look for ways to help support the local community.”
